It started with a meme and now it’s becoming more and more viral as time goes by. For everyone who lives under a rock, emo music starts becoming relevant again and -to be honest- I’m here for it!
You know what they say. Rock never dies, it just change it’s shape and form. The same goes for emo, which made its appearance in people’s lives during the early ’00s and is characterized by an emphasis on emotional expression through confessional lyrics. It’s inspired by other metal genres such as post-hardcore, hardcore punk and goth. Some of the greatest emo bands are The Used, Jimmy Eat World and the one and only My Chemical Romance, who, after 7 years, made a surprise return and a announce a stage appearance in Chicago, this summer. The show sold out 4 minutes after it’s announcement and their most pooular album ”Welcome to The Black Parade” hit the billoboards once again after after its release. Meanwhile, another big band of the same genre did come back, with a smaller, but still relevant, impact, Fall Out Boy. Not only are they back in the game, but they’ve also announced ”The Mania Tour” in late 2019.
Millenials like myself, were raised listening to this type of bands, so, I feel like it’s fair enough we talk about a new emo era, in which -let’s hope that- at least people are going to have a little more fashion taste when it comes to clothing and makeup. For the love of God, if anyone’s listening to me, please make it fashion! I look back at my emo-15-year-old self and it makes we wanna cry. Straight, fried hair, skinny black ripped jeans, black Chuck Taylor’s and some patchy eyeshadow in the crease of my eyes. We were going outdoors looking like teenage acne racoons for no actual reason. But ,for real now, why would young adults to return to the days were they would shout to their mum that ”it’s not a phase” while smudging eyeliner under their eyes?
Well, I think that this type of nostalgia is coming from the fact that ,nowadays, the world is a mess. Bad things happen all the time. So why wouldn’t you want to return back to the things that made you happy 5–10 years ago? Emo is all about being in a community, talk about your mental health struggles, your struggles and thoughts about your life. It had its cringe moments, but it helped a huge amount of people through their rough teenage years. Moreover, I don’t think we ever got through this emo phase on the first place. I don’t believe that you grow out of things you actually enjoy. You might find other things more interesting as you grow up, but you’ll always have a soft spot for the things you once liked. So, I hope your rawring 20s start well, with way less Big Depression. And don’t forget: Rawr means I love you in dinosaur xD
