how to survive in a metal festival when going alone

I’ve noticed that there aren’t any other similar articles covering this topic. Probably because many people have friends who have similar music taste. Or maybe because they’re going to festivals with their significant other . As for me, honestly, I’m quite unlucky. None of my friends listen to this ”screamo, satanic sh*t” I listen, and also, I’m as single as a pringle. So, how do you go to a show when you’re a hardcore music lover but there’s no one coming with you? Here are some tips from a female metalhead who has literally been an expert to this type of situations.

First things first: stay comfy. And don’t get me wrong. You can snatch that face to the Gods. But don’t make the mistake to wear tight clothing, high heels or anything that may feel heavy. For real, please don’t. Music festivals last at least half a day and you want to enjoy the moment. Imagine getting in a huge crowd where people push each other, bounce and mosh like crazy, with 5-inch high heel shoes and huge hoop earrings . Not a good idea. At all.

Tip #2: stay safe: going to a music festival usually is way more safe than most people think. There is always security around the stage and ambulances before the main gates, in case of an emergency. But being a woman and going somewhere alone isn’t a good combination. So make sure you take the right safety steps before going to the show. While you’re on the festival, and you feel like someone is stalking you, don’t hesitate to tell a group. Find other people to chat and help you can feel safer.

Tip number three: No one’s coming? More food and drinks for you! And, believe me, you’ll enjoy it. There’s nothing better than drinking some Jameson while enjoying the live music playing around you. And for the food lovers out there, metal festivals have plenty of food choices for you and it’s a good opportunity for you to try out some goodies , especially if the festival is abroad. But you gotta stay to drinking cause it makes you look more badass, ya know.

Number 4: meet new people. Have conversations with strangers. There’s a good chance you’ll meet some nice people who will add some extra fun to your day. And for my antisocial metalheads out there, it’s your time to shine! You can chat about your favorite bands, upcoming tours and many many stuff.

Lastly, #5: enjoy the moment. You’re one of the thousand people in the crowd. You spent your whole day waiting for your band to appear on stage. You’ve spent years listening to their music, jamming to every song, relating to every lyric. Don’t let anyone take that away from you. If you look around, there are people just like you, having similar feelings of happiness. Metal is passion. A passion that connects each and everyone of them. Stay stress- free, be yourself and live your fantasy!
