Are ”The Rawring 20s” a thing?

It started with a meme and now it’s becoming more and more viral as time goes by. For everyone who lives under a rock, emo music starts becoming relevant again and -to be honest- I’m here for it!

You know what they say. Rock never dies, it just change it’s shape and form. The same goes for emo, which made its appearance in people’s lives during the early ’00s and is characterized by an emphasis on emotional expression through confessional lyrics. It’s inspired by other metal genres such as post-hardcore, hardcore punk and goth. Some of the greatest emo bands are The Used, Jimmy Eat World and the one and only My Chemical Romance, who, after 7 years, made a surprise return and a announce a stage appearance in Chicago, this summer. The show sold out 4 minutes after it’s announcement and their most pooular album ”Welcome to The Black Parade” hit the billoboards once again after after its release. Meanwhile, another big band of the same genre did come back, with a smaller, but still relevant, impact, Fall Out Boy. Not only are they back in the game, but they’ve also announced ”The Mania Tour” in late 2019.

Millenials like myself, were raised listening to this type of bands, so, I feel like it’s fair enough we talk about a new emo era, in which -let’s hope that- at least people are going to have a little more fashion taste when it comes to clothing and makeup. For the love of God, if anyone’s listening to me, please make it fashion! I look back at my emo-15-year-old self and it makes we wanna cry. Straight, fried hair, skinny black ripped jeans, black Chuck Taylor’s and some patchy eyeshadow in the crease of my eyes. We were going outdoors looking like teenage acne racoons for no actual reason. But ,for real now, why would young adults to return to the days were they would shout to their mum that ”it’s not a phase” while smudging eyeliner under their eyes?

Well, I think that this type of nostalgia is coming from the fact that ,nowadays, the world is a mess. Bad things happen all the time. So why wouldn’t you want to return back to the things that made you happy 5–10 years ago? Emo is all about being in a community, talk about your mental health struggles, your struggles and thoughts about your life. It had its cringe moments, but it helped a huge amount of people through their rough teenage years. Moreover, I don’t think we ever got through this emo phase on the first place. I don’t believe that you grow out of things you actually enjoy. You might find other things more interesting as you grow up, but you’ll always have a soft spot for the things you once liked. So, I hope your rawring 20s start well, with way less Big Depression. And don’t forget: Rawr means I love you in dinosaur xD

Listen to Avenged Sevenfold’s latest release: Set Me Free

It seems like the legends are back! It’s been a year since we’ve heard of A7X and now they are back with a new power ballad called ”Set me free”. The song is an ureleased track from their sixth album ”Hail To The King” and fans couldn’t be any happier.

Although the vocalist of the band, M. Shadows, had some issues when he discovered he had a blood blister on his vocal chords the previous summer and the band had to cancel multiple shows while on tour with Prophets of Rage and Three Days Grace , the ”Bat Country” lyricists are coming stronger than ever with a 6-and-a-half-minute ride that has some beautiful harmonized guitar solos and Shadows killing it in the vocals. The song was originally recorded in 2013 featuring their previous drummer Arin Ilejay and will be included in their latest collection release ”Diamond in the Rough” which is coming in February 7th. The collection includes many unreleased songs they’ve made during the decade.

The band has been staying silent on social media lately and that’s because, apart from the collection, they are focusing on the making of their new album coming in late 2020 as guitarist Zacky Vengeace reported. Their previous album, ”The Stage” which was Avenged’s debut for Capitol, got some backlash, even though it was a surprise album, mainly because they seemed to have experimented with their sound a little more than they should have and fans weren’t happy about it. The lyric content is also different as the band evolves, which makes us wonder how the next album is going to be.

25 YEARS OF ROCKWAVE: PLACEBO AND DEEP PURPLE

As it seems, all my extra money will be spent in concerts this year. At this point you may have all understand that I never miss music events, so I’m going to share with you the two more shows that caught my eye.

We’ll start with Placebo. I have a funny story to share with you relating to this band. Three years ago, in 2017 it was the first time they ever performed in our country. My best friend was going through an alternative phase at the time and wanted me to come with her at the show. I -obviously- accepted, even though I wasn’t really into this type of music back then, and she told me to buy the tickets because she didn’t know how to book them online, to which I also accepted. Me, being the irresponsible person that I am, couldn’t even remember the date of the performance so I just completely forgot about it and never book the tickets. So, the day of the concert, my friend calls me and asked me wheter I had the tickets. Meanwhile, I was in vacation, completely unaware of my mistake. Long story short, she started crying while we were talking to the phone and she ,still, to this day, talks me off about it. Anyways, back to the festival. It’s going to take place in Terra Vibe Park- Malakasa in July 27th. As I said previously, I wasn’t a fan since last year because I would find them ”too mellow for my taste”. But as I’m growing up, I do appreciate the fact that they make beautiful, almost poetic love songs. Their music is mainly nostalgic and melancholic but easy to listen. I think anyone would enjoy the show, even people who aren’t in the rock scene.

As for Deep Purple, words can’t express how honored I feel that I’ll see this legendary band live. When I was a teen, I would feel kinda guilty because of the fact that I never had the chance to see classic rock bands live ex. Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones etc. Now, it’s finally time to feel like I was born in a different generation. I remember when me and my family would go on family trips and we would listen to ”Child in Time”. I was in kindergarten and this songs was giving me these goosebumps. The event will take place in the same park, in June 6th. It will be a once in a lifetime experience, and I’m so ready for it.

how to survive in a metal festival when going alone

I’ve noticed that there aren’t any other similar articles covering this topic. Probably because many people have friends who have similar music taste. Or maybe because they’re going to festivals with their significant other . As for me, honestly, I’m quite unlucky. None of my friends listen to this ”screamo, satanic sh*t” I listen, and also, I’m as single as a pringle. So, how do you go to a show when you’re a hardcore music lover but there’s no one coming with you? Here are some tips from a female metalhead who has literally been an expert to this type of situations.

First things first: stay comfy. And don’t get me wrong. You can snatch that face to the Gods. But don’t make the mistake to wear tight clothing, high heels or anything that may feel heavy. For real, please don’t. Music festivals last at least half a day and you want to enjoy the moment. Imagine getting in a huge crowd where people push each other, bounce and mosh like crazy, with 5-inch high heel shoes and huge hoop earrings . Not a good idea. At all.

Tip #2: stay safe: going to a music festival usually is way more safe than most people think. There is always security around the stage and ambulances before the main gates, in case of an emergency. But being a woman and going somewhere alone isn’t a good combination. So make sure you take the right safety steps before going to the show. While you’re on the festival, and you feel like someone is stalking you, don’t hesitate to tell a group. Find other people to chat and help you can feel safer.

Tip number three: No one’s coming? More food and drinks for you! And, believe me, you’ll enjoy it. There’s nothing better than drinking some Jameson while enjoying the live music playing around you. And for the food lovers out there, metal festivals have plenty of food choices for you and it’s a good opportunity for you to try out some goodies , especially if the festival is abroad. But you gotta stay to drinking cause it makes you look more badass, ya know.

Number 4: meet new people. Have conversations with strangers. There’s a good chance you’ll meet some nice people who will add some extra fun to your day. And for my antisocial metalheads out there, it’s your time to shine! You can chat about your favorite bands, upcoming tours and many many stuff.

Lastly, #5: enjoy the moment. You’re one of the thousand people in the crowd. You spent your whole day waiting for your band to appear on stage. You’ve spent years listening to their music, jamming to every song, relating to every lyric. Don’t let anyone take that away from you. If you look around, there are people just like you, having similar feelings of happiness. Metal is passion. A passion that connects each and everyone of them. Stay stress- free, be yourself and live your fantasy!

Release Festival 2020: Are You Ready?

Let me tell you, you ain’t ready for this! Release Festival 2020 is going to host some of the biggest names in the metal scene and people are going insane. The last years, Release Festival is always surprising us with the hottest music shows and this is no exception.

Slipknot 24/7: After their latest album ”We are not your kind” which, If you ask me, is a ten-out-of ten masterpiece, The Iowa group is coming back to Greece after many years for a show that will make history. They’ve earned our respect not only because of the hits they make ,but also, for their outstanding live perfomances in which nobody can be compared. I can assure that, as the vocalist of the group, Corey Taylor, has said before: ”They don’t play shows. They start wars”.

Judas Priest 17/7: Following the band’s 50-year anniversary, the ”Metal Gods” are coming back in our country for the second time during the last three years and they’re going to raise hell. One of the first and most respectable bands ever existed, with tracks that are worldwide known, such as ”Painkiller”, ”Living After Midnight” and ”Hellbent For Leather”. You don’t wanna miss it!

Mercyful Fate 13/6: If you’re a true metalhead, you’re gonna love this one! With the legendary and notorious King Diamond in vocals, Mercyful Fate are one of the few bands that have such a big effect in the metal scene. Way darker and more vicious-looking than the previous two, they are here to provoke once again with their melodic, twisted sound and their bold appearances. Prepare yourselves for a night in hell!

Sabaton 22/7: This is a classic one. The Swedish group have reached to a point where they’ve earned our respect, with many headline shows, platinum albums and sold- out tours in all around the world. They’re one of the greatest live acts of our generation and they have one of the most dedicated metal fanbases. Sabaton are here to join the fight with Amon Amarth who are ,without doubt, the kings of epic metal and Testament on their side. As you all understood by the tone of this article, I’ll buy tickets for all of the upcoming shows and the only thing I’m worried about, is how I’m going to pay my bills afterwards. For anyone who is interested to go to more than one, there are many deals you can get:
